Hu Xiangyang, head of the National Hearing Impairment and Ear Disease Survey Project and former director of the China Rehabilitation Research Center for Deaf Children, analyzed: “The main causes of hearing impairment in my country are non-communicable diseases, ear diseases, noise, etc. The hearing impaired patients are elderly people. People dominate, and the elderly over 60 account for 55.31% of all hearing impaired patients. As my country’s aging trend intensifies, the overall prevalence of hearing impaired in my country is still on the rise.”
The survey also found that only 27.56% of patients with ear diseases have received ear examinations, and only 7.91% of people with moderate or higher hearing impairment use hearing aids and cochlear implants.Experts said that it has become a top priority to strengthen primary ear health care, promote hearing screening for newborns, develop audiology services, and increase the use rate of hearing aids for patients with moderate or higher hearing impairment.
