Me Again – Bluetooth Compatible

I’ve had hearing aids for 10 months now and my life has changed. A few tweaks we required to make things as perfect as possible for me, Covid held appointments up for a good few months, but all in all it’s been a joy.

I still struggle with the television sound, but my husband who has good hearing is the same, so apparently I’m normal in that regard. Although there is a box that will plug in to my television which will allow me to hear programmes through my hearing aids, so if I decide to get that I can smirk at the good hearer struggling with poor sound mixing. Bonus!

Phone calls are brilliant on my mobile, no more rummaging in my handbag to find my phone, only to find that someone has rung off and now I have to call them back. One tap behind my ear for hello, two for goodbye, phone still in bag!

I’m not telling you that the sound is perfect, but it’s so much better than it’s been for 10 years, and I feel like myself again. No longer is a perfectly intelligent person being treated like the idiot in the room, with people speaking slowly but loudly, not realising that’s no help whatsoever.

During the Covid situation my work has moved on-line, and thanks to the hearing aids I am able to heal people on webinars far better than I could before, almost normally, which is brilliant. They should bluetooth to my computer and if I can get that sorted out, something that hasn’t proven easy, that will be even better. The hearing aids have two microphones so they pick up voice clearly.

As a professional public speaker – and insper-actional speaker who encourages you to be inspired to action and not just inspired – I will be able to buy two reasonably priced microphones, one of which can be handed around by the audience, the other will pin to my clothes. When the audience member speaks into their mic, I will hear it through my hearing aids.

Because I must have over-the-ear aids the Covid situation hasn’t been easy. What with the aids, spectacles, and a mask, I’m flinging things around right, left, and centre if I’m not careful, and today I landed up with both aids tangled in my hair. If you can have the inner ear ones you’ll escape this issue.

However, there was one big hurdle I had to get over. Not the look of them, I have long hair and plenty of it, not the fact of them I’m grateful for them. The name of them. Hearing aids sounds so ageing even though children are born with hearing issues. I’ve got past that too.

“Are you wearing your hearing aids dear?”

“No, I’m not bluetoothed in at the moment!”

So there you go, being bluetooth compatible is rather brilliant, they don’t fall out if you go for a run, and you can make them sound disgustingly modern and with it.

Happy hearing

To your happiness
